National Guard Most Inspirational Athlete 2014
The votes are in the for National Guard Most Inspirational Athlete contest. Aaron Gebhart, a track and field athlete of New Oxford High School (Pa.), has been crowned the winner, with 335,765 votes. The final round of the contest attracted 1,248,334 votes total.
Gebhart overcame a challenging upbringing, took control of his own life, and found his passion and talent in running. He went on to compete at the Nike Northeast Cross Country Regional Championship earning 16th place - just coming up short of qualifying for the national meet.
Following Gebart was Calvary Christian Academy (Philadelphia, Pa.) baseball player David Coppola, with 277,177 votes, and Decatur High School (Federal Way, Wa.) football and basketball player Dominique Cooks with 214,260 votes.
The 2014 National Guard Inspiration contest featured some of the most inspirational high school athletes from across the country. Fans, coaches and athletes were asked to vote for who they felt was the most inspirational. These are athletes not only excel on the field, but also off – by overcoming adversity or finding time to give back to the community.
