Results for Top Rivalry 2012
The rivalry began in the 1950s and is known to the locals as "The Swamp War" because both teams live on opposite sides of the Okefenokee Swamp. There's an hour drive around the swamp for the away team, but that won't stop either town from virtually shutting down on game night.
Widely regarded as Georgia's most popular high school rivalry, Valdosta-Lowndes, dubbed the "Winnersville Classic", is also one of the most heated. From the vandalism of the schools the night before the big game to the emotional trash talk during the game, it's clear to see that neither side is very fond of the other. It helps that both programs have been wildly successful. Valdosta has accumulated the most wins in the nation (874-208-34), while Lowndes has won four of its five state titles since 1999.
This rivalry began in 1982 and reached its height when the two teams met in the 2002 state title, which Parkview won 28-7. Since then, Parkview has gone 2-6 against Brookwood. The rivalry is intensified because the vast majority of both teams' players have known and competed against each other since they started playing in the Gwinett Football League.
